What the Compress Image tool does

This tool shrinks the file size of a JPG, PNG or WebP image by re-encoding it at a lower quality level, while leaving its pixel dimensions untouched. How it works

The image is drawn onto an HTML canvas in your browser, then re-encoded using the canvas's built-in JPG or WebP encoder at the quality percentage you choose. Lower quality settings discard more of the fine detail in busy areas (like leaves or fabric texture) while keeping flat colors and smooth gradients looking clean, which is why compressed photos usually still look sharp at a glance even at 60–70% quality.

How to use it

Input accepts JPG, PNG and WebP. Output is JPG or WebP, since PNG doesn't support the quality-based compression this tool relies on. WebP typically produces the smallest file for a given quality level, while JPG has the widest compatibility with older software and platforms.
