What the Convert Image tool does

This tool changes an image's file format — between JPG, PNG and WebP — without altering its width or height. It's useful whenever a platform, app or print process demands a specific format that your original file doesn't match.

How it works

Your image is loaded into a canvas at its original resolution and immediately re-exported in the target format. Converting to JPG fills any transparent areas with white, since JPG has no transparency channel. Converting to PNG or WebP preserves transparency if the source image has it. No resizing or recompression beyond what the target format requires happens automatically, so dimensions stay exact.

How to use it

1. Upload the image you need to convert.
2. Choose the output format: JPG, PNG or WebP.
3. Press Convert to generate the new file.
4. Download the converted copy — your original stays untouched.

Supported formats and quality

JPG and WebP are exported at a fixed high quality (92%) so the conversion itself doesn't visibly degrade the image. PNG is lossless, so converting to PNG never loses quality, though the resulting file is usually larger than a JPG or WebP of the same picture.

Benefits and common use cases

Converting formats is handy when a website builder only accepts JPG, when you need PNG for a transparent logo, or when you want WebP's smaller footprint for a modern site without a quality hit. It's also useful for standardizing a batch of mixed-format images before uploading them somewhere that expects one consistent type.

One thing worth knowing: converting a JPG to PNG won't recover detail the JPG's original compression already threw away — PNG just stops any further loss from that point on. If you need the smallest possible file and don't need transparency, WebP is usually the better pick over PNG for photographic content.
