What the URL Media tool does
This tool loads an image directly from a web link, so you can grab a picture you found online without first saving it to your device and then uploading it again. Paste a direct image URL and it appears in the preview, ready to inspect or download as a fresh copy.
How it works
The tool requests the image at the URL you provide and displays it in your browser. To offer it as a download, the image is drawn onto a canvas and re-exported as a PNG — a step that some sites block for images hosted with cross-origin restrictions, which is a security measure built into browsers rather than a limitation of this tool.
How to use it
- Copy a direct link to an image (it should end in .jpg, .png, .webp or similar).
- Paste it into the URL field and press Load image.
- Check the dimensions and source shown alongside the preview.
- Press Download copy to save a local PNG version.
Formats and limitations
Any browser-renderable image format works for viewing. If a site's server blocks cross-origin access to its images, the preview may still show but the download step will fail — in that case, opening the image URL in a new tab and saving it manually is the reliable fallback.
